Equine Medicine & Surgery

Equine Faculty

Our state-of-art hospital along with our highly qualified professional faculty and staff enable us to provide comprehensive care for horses in one site. While we routinely serve as a referral center for complex cases in the area, referrals are not necessary for us to evaluate your horse.

The Equine Medicine team provides an array of services for the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of horse diseases, including heart and lung disorders, colic, diarrhea, neurological diseases, neonatal intensive care, and infectious diseases. Faculty members, Dr. Jenifer Gold and Dr. Macarena Sanz, are board-certified in large animal internal medicine by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM). Dr. Sanz has a strong interest in infectious diseases and immunology. Dr. Gold has a strong interest in neonatal foals and respiratory disease including exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage.

The Equine Surgery team has special expertise in lameness evaluation and endoscopic surgery. They offer a comprehensive array of surgical services for many conditions including fracture repair, arthroscopic surgery, colic, urinary bladder disorders, upper respiratory abnormalities, and ovariectomy to name a few. Team members also perform high-speed treadmill testing. Dr. Claude Ragle and Dr. Kelly Farnsworth are board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgery (ACVS).

The Equine Theriogenology team provides reproductive services with a special expertise in infertility in mares and stallions. Services for mares include diagnosis and treatment of reproductive disorders; artificial insemination (cooled and frozen semen); embryo transfer; twin reduction; management of high risk pregnancies; and foaling and foaling complications management.
